Bowel & Cancer Research looks forward to a day when no one will die of bowel cancer or have to live with chronic bowel disease. We firmly believe that research holds the key to this vision and that research will lead to more people surviving bowel cancer and to fewer people having to live with chronic bowel disease. Bowel & Cancer Research was set up in the 1990s by Professor Norman Williams who was at the time a leading colorectal surgeon based at the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel. "When I was a boy, I mentioned to an uncle that I was interested in becoming a doctor. He showed me his stoma and urged me to help people like him. My path was set from that day." Professor Williams was determined that high quality research would improve the quality of life of people like his uncle, and this philosophy has guided the charity ever since.
